Vegan Sweet Treats – Fudge Review

vegan_sweet_treats_review

I’ve really been looking forward to writing this review…why? I think the title of the post pretty much gives it away! Vegan friends, I’ve recently made the most wonderful discovery. I’ve come across a small company from Cambridge called Vegan Sweet Treats that makes the most glorious vegan fudge! I recently got to try some of their fudge, and I simply lack the words to describe just how yummy it is…it’s just glorious! There, that pretty much covers it. 🙂

They have ten mouthwatering varieties: White Chocolate, Caramel, Chocolate Orange, Peanut Butter, Fruit and Nuts, Lemon, Chocolate Swirl, Mint Chocolate, Chocolate, and Vanilla. I had some of the Mint Chocolate, Caramel, Vanilla and Chocolate Swirl the other day, and I loved them all.

These little bites of heaven are everything you expect from a good fudge, and more! Picking a favourite is tough, but if I had to make a choice, I would have to stick with the Chocolate Swirl and the Mint Chocolate.

The Chocolate Swirl reminds me of a brownie my gran used to make me as a child. It’s not too sweet, and the flavours are very well balanced. It’s light with an almost cake-like texture.

Chocolate Swirl Fudge

I have to admint I was a bit surprised by how much I enjoyed the Mint Chocolate fudge. I’ve never been a fan of sweet treats with mint. The combination always seemed bizarre to me, almost as if you mixed together sugar and toothpaste. But this fudge is so different. The predomintant flavour is chocolate with a very subtle hint of mint that gives it a certain freshness…it’s just lovely.

Mint Chocolate Fudge

Looking at the ingredients, the four varieties I tried all contained sugar, soya cream, sunflower spread and glucose syrup. The vanilla fudge is made with vanilla bean extract, the mind chocolate has cocoa powder and peppermint extract, the caramel fudge contains natural caramel flavouring, and the chocolate swirl has some dark chocolate. I love how the list of ingredients is short and sweet ( no pun intended!), and there’s nothing on there you don’t recognise. So kudos to them for keeping things as natural as possible! Each flavour comes in its own 100g bag, and as for the expiration date, the fudge is good for about 3 weeks….but seriously, who has the will to keep fudge lying around the pantry for that long?!
